Matthew Rowean

Matthew was born in Boston Massachusetts, June 08, 1982. He Studied Painting and communication design first at the Rhode Island School of Design pre college program then receiving a BFA in painting at Syracuse University.
Currently Rowean lives and works in Manhattan, New York where he has been exhibiting art in solo and group exhibitions since 2004.
Matthew Rowean’s work is focused on exploring compositional relationships of color shape and representational imagery.
His paintings often times reflect his background as a traditionally trained designer and the struggle to reconcile the formalities of that discipline with the more emotional aspects of painting.
While showing in several group exhibitions over the past decade, Rowean also contributes pieces regularly to charitable organizations such as the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Foundation,
Russell simmons’s Rush Arts Gallery, and the Doing Art Together organization. Rowean has also done commissioned works for several restaurants & hotels in NYC.
